Here at North Star Equestrian Center under the management of Adrian Pasquale & Shannon Pasquale we utilize the philosophy of Natural Horsemanship. Of course saddling a horse and riding seems counter intuitive to the term natural however the true meaning of “Natural” is referring to the way we communicate with the horse. These techniques which have been deployed with our training method over the last 15 years are based on the use of non verbal body language in the same manner horses communicate in the natural herd setting. Thus, the term "Natural Horsemanship". Additionally, while in training we improve the relationship of horse and rider through the use of innovative and interactive activities so the horses look forward to the training sessions. The end result is a happy and confident partnership between horse and rider.
Background:
Adrian & Shannon have been riding and training horses over 40 years. Adrian has ridden and competed in both English and Western riding events . They have owned and managed the current operations since 2002. Over the years they have trained and started around 40 colts as they transition from babies to saddle horses and Adrian has even gentled and started a wild mustang who had never been touched. Also, all breeds and sizes of horses have been through the program with a proven track record of success.
When communication with the horse is improved the results are astonishing. Effective communication improves the relationship with the horse allowing higher learning, increased confidence within the horse and rider, and a horse who is eager to please and expand the relationship between horse and rider. In addition, multiple teaching techniques are utilized depending on the personality of the horse in order to improve performance. The skill in the training can be found by the trainer using a different technique to teach the horse based on the fact some horses perform more effectively when a non- traditional technique is practiced. Furthermore, all techniques are focused on teaching so nothing is forced and all the techniques are gentle which build trust with the horse and ultimately lead to a willing horse with renewed enthusiasm.
Finally, part of the training success is attributable to joint sessions with the horse and owner so the owner can be a part of the process and continue with the tools of relationship building and communication which are instilled in the horse. The good news is the horses retains this information very well and even years later when past equine students return for refresher training the core communication tools are well grounded and continued learning and growth is attained.
